Very average, i traveled Chicago to New Delhi in 2005. Better if you can avoid, the planes are old and bathrooms are worse.

Hi,
I have travelled by air india a couple of times and have always found the service decent. A lot of indians use the service, so u can usually find someone to chat with and if you are travelling with kids, you can find company for them, which is a great plus cause it is a long flight. It also helped me while returning back to US, I wasnt sure about a couple of questions on my immigration form and i just asked a co-passenger for clarification. Also, the indian movies shown help for passing time :)
On the other hand, the planes are old and by the time its the end of the flight, the bathroom condition gets bad. Ohh and ofcourse there are some passengers who were actually sleeping on the airplane floor at the back of the plane :)

Was 6 months pregnant - the staff was extremely helpful and took good care of me. But all the times that I have travelled by Air India - its either business or first class and my experience is based on the service provided there. Was happy with the travel.

| Bad Points | Planes are old. Did not have a personal Television for everyone - even in first class. The chairs did not go down fully to become a bed - even in first class. Bathrooms are ok - need upgrades. No direct flights from SFO to Mumbai - need to go to LA. |

I traveled with a 2 year old kid. Staff was helpful in providing warm milk / water for the formula.
Stopover was at Frankfurt for a little over an hour where they clean the plane. Would like a little longer break though, i guess 3 hours is ideal.
Overall fine, there are better choices though.
